The client contacted Fauna Art Studios for the design of a small business web site. She downloaded our design questionnaire and answered it to the best of her ability. After we discussed her needs and budget constraints and recommended a site structure, she took the time to develop her site's content and scanned the photos of her products, saving herself the cost of several hours otherwise billed to her. 

Initially, she only wanted to display her products, being unsure about the online ordering process and having heard of the high costs of shopping carts. Since her line consisted of only twelve items, we solved her problem with a simple order form script (a simple shopping cart is also available for the same price), and further recommended PayPal payment processing service. She also kept her costs down by submitting to the major search engines herself.

For under $300, she now has a fully functional business "location" that's accessible worldwide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. By comparison, business classified advertising in her local shopper's guide costs $30/week (circulation 100,000, but only a small percentage will actually read her ad), which does not allow her to describe her products in detail or to receive orders directly. After the site is designed and installed on the server, her monthly cost will be $8.95, plus a low fee for online orders, charged by her payment processor.

Knowing that a successful online business cannot rely solely on search engines for new customers, she continues to place a small number of print ads but now includes her URL in them, as well as on her business card and in any correspondence with current and potential customers, providing them a means to learn all about the products to make an informed purchasing decision.
